“Human Nature, Figure No. 5, No. 6, No. 7” by artist Art Garcia

Dallas artist Art Garcia is adding to your enjoyment of the Meadow Nature Preserve this spring and summer with his exhibition, Human Nature, a collection of colorful steel sculptures representing the human form that have been thoughtfully placed throughout the Meadow.


The public is invited to an Artist Reception in the Meadow from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, featuring music, food, drinks, a discussion and tour of the sculpture with the artist.

“The serial objects produced in Human Nature offer observations into our social consciousness,” Garcia says of the exhibition. “Seemingly displaced from an industrial or urban environment, these figures use the language of color so commonly experienced in our daily lives. Through the expressive application of color, a glimpse into each objects individuality is provided.”

Garcia, a Texas-born artist who lives and works in Dallas, is currently working on his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Dallas. His emphasis is to create objects specific to the environment in which they exist.

Over the past three decades he has produced work for The City of Dallas, Georgetown, Southlake, New Orleans, The Meadows School of Art, The University of Texas at Dallas, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the US Census. His work has been honored in journals and annuals in the United States and Europe.

Most recently Garcia completed Zarape, 20 stylized human profiles for Victory Forest Community Center in Fort Worth, and Frolic, four serial forms in steel for Fire Station 32 in Dallas. Past installations which he has created and managed, encompass retail properties including The Riverwalk in New Orleans and Topanga Plaza in Canoga Park, CA.

A 1986 graduate of the Art Institute of Dallas, he founded Graphic Content in 1998 to support private, public and commercial endeavors. Garcia holds an MA from the University of Dallas and has guest lectured at the Art Institute of Dallas, the University of North Texas and South Arkansas State University.

The Meadow Nature Preserve is open to the public from dawn to dusk daily.
