The recently completed July board meeting was an exciting one as we introduced Marcus Yarbrough as the new board president and welcomed three new members.

Marcus, who has been a member of the Connemara board since 2007, begins a two-year term and takes over for outgoing president Kirk Evans. He most recently has served as chairman of the Land Committee during a period in which Connemara has dramatically increased the number of acres under its protection.

Also during the board meeting, Kirk was recognized for two great years of service. Thank’s to Kirk’s passion and leadership, Connemara has significantly grown its presence within the conservation communities locally, regionally and nationally and now has an influential role in many important conservation initiatives.

In addition, the board welcomed three new members:

  • George Brown — George is a renowned chef and supporter of the organic farm to table food supply movement.  He and his wife Katie own Experimental Table located on a 10 acre farm in Lucas, Texas.  Recently, Modern Luxury named Experimental Table the #1 catering company in Dallas.  George catered Connemara’s first Hops for Habitat and the 2012 Into the Meadow. He has supported all of Connemara’s farm to table-type events in whatever capacity he can.
  • Shirley Ogden —Shirley is an Investment Analyst and works on the Investment Strategy Team at Lee Financial. She joined the firm in 1994 and has more than 25 years experience in the financial advisory business. Prior to joining the firm, Shirley worked at large national public accounting firms in the areas of auditing, small company advisory, and tax planning. In addition, Shirley has been an Advisory Board member for numerous limited partnerships and was previously on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee for a publicly traded energy company. She has been active on Connemara’s Into the Meadow committee for the last two years, has attended many of the organization’s events and is looking forward to working on the Finance Committee as Connemara  prepares for the accreditation process.
  • Chris Ebling — Chris is the current Chair of the Land Committee and has been involved with Connemara as a volunteer for a number of years.  He contributes environmental knowledge, strategic organizational acumen, and a passion for the land to the Connemara Conservancy Foundation.  Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Michigan and in 2014 will be conferred a Masters in Resource Interpretation through the Stephen F Austin State University School of Forestry. Throughout his career Chris worked in product management, marketing, business process re-engineering, program management and general management at various international technology corporations and consulting firms. Chris and his wife Karen reside in Plano and actively manage their 160 acres in Fannin County for improved wildlife habitat.

We’ll be providing more information on all our board members in coming weeks.
